This CPD introduces tiling patterns through the world of tessellations, looking at symmetry, repeat patterns and a handful of mathematical terms and rules. We explore the history and cultural significance of different tessellations, and look at tiling patterns in contemporary interiors – providing participants with ideas and inspiration for creating their own patterns. Reflecting on tiling patterns in the world around us, the CPD aims to inspire its audience to integrate innovative tiling patterns in future projects.  

 This CPD gives an overview of how the tiling industry is innovating to become more sustainable. Exploring innovations and initiatives throughout the whole product life cycle of tiles, we’ll discuss topics such as sustainable sourcing of materials, mass manufacturing, and installation. We’ll highlight new innovations in material composition of surface materials; from biodegradable tiles to recycled content, showing how you can specify sustainable materials without compromising on aesthetics or performance. The CPD also covers tips and questions to ask when specifying tiles for a more sustainable outcome.

Topics include defining terrazzo tiles and technical stone tiles, what to consider when specifying them for a project, the history of terrazzo, and why the material has seen such a strong revival in recent years. The CPD features a range of case studies from around the world, accompanied by the insights of architects and interior designers, and speculates what the future holds for these fun and dynamic surface materials. This CPD explores how to specify creative tile designs with the use of bespoke fabrication processes. Through real-life case studies, ideas for creative ways of using tiles in projects will be shared to help you understand different possibilities when it comes to bespoke fabrication and installation. The CPD will also cover relevant specification tips and regulations for staircases, waterjet cutting, tiled vanity units, natural stone mosaics, and more! By the end of this CPD you should have a greater understanding of how to use tiles in non-standard solutions, and how to design bespoke surface designs. You will also gain an understanding of how fabrication and installation processes affect the overall tile design, and how bespoke tile fabrication can add value to a project.
