Looking Ahead with the Latest Tile Trends at Cersaie

Cersaie, the foremost international exhibition of ceramic tiles and bathroom furnishings took place last week in Bologna, the historical capital of the Emilia-Romagna region in northern Italy. The show’s importance is demonstrated by the attendance of more than 111,000 visitors, half being international visitors from all over the world.

We made the trip to see the latest tiles on show and determine the trends that will come through in our new collections over the next year or so.

The use of neutrals and pastel colours remains strong but this year we saw them combined with much stronger colours, particularly blues, greens and pinks. Bold, vibrant colours were used both on their own as well as to bring a new perspective to other effects such as concrete or terrazzo. Terrazzo was also given a new look with tiles where the effect had been magnified.

The use of glaze in different ways was particularly interesting with examples seen of a single tile having great textural variation. We loved the use of a distinctive glaze akin to the ancient Japanese ceramics technique of Raku to produce a stunning finish.

Botanical patterns were very much on trend with printed tiles being used much like wallpaper. Geometric patterns were also prominent with several stands combining them with more muted toned tiles to great effect.

Overall, the show had plenty for us to get excited about and we look forward to sharing these latest products with you soon.
